Superstar event designer Preston Bailey was in charge of the event, as the private club area was changed into the renowned El Morocco nightclub, complete with blue-and-white zebra stripes on the carpet outside and the chairs and banquettes. On every table, there were even massive white palm palms and cactus the club was known for down to identical replicas of the original ashtrays and matchbook boxes.
The guests who were in the signature black tie and long gowns included Martha Stewart, actor Stephen Baldwin, Melissa Rivers, and Hollywood legend George Hamilton mixing with Candace Bushnell, Dorinda Medley, Nikki Haskell, Queer Eyes Thom Felicia, New York Council Member Erik Bottcher, Peggy Siegal, designers Dennis Basso and Elie Tahari from New York, LA and Europe.
The Rockettes entertained the guests and presented him with a nautical-themed cake brought out to the Village People’s “In the Navy,” plus indoor fireworks.
Joan Rivers’ daughter, Melissa, kept her mother’s spirit alive and well as she attended with her fiance, Steve Mitchel.
At the celebration, the late comedian’s sole child, aged 56, affectionately referred to Currie as the son her ‘mother never had.’
She reminisced about her mother’s habit of taking items from hotels and restaurants, as reported by Page Six.
The menu included one of Rivers’ funny quotes as an homage to the birthday boy: “I’m so old, my Bible is autographed,” it read.
