Fashion Trust Arabia 2024 Winners Celebrated by Top Designers in Marrakech

The sixth edition of the Fashion Trust Arabia (FTA) Awards, held in Marrakech, Morocco, marked a significant moment for designers across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). The initiative, dedicated to supporting emerging talent from the region, awarded grants and mentorships to seven designers. Winners included Nadine Mosallam for ready-to-wear, Yasmin Mansour for evening wear, Reem Hamed for accessories, and the Saudi Arabian team behind APOA for jewelry. Each winner received grants ranging from $100,000 to $200,000, with Palestinian Jordanian designer Sylwia Nazzal awarded $50,000 for the Franca Sozzani Debut Talent category. Additionally, the Entrepreneur of the Year Award went to Charaf Tajer of Casablanca.

The FTA judging panel featured industry leaders like Balmain’s Olivier Rousteing, Moncler chairman Remo Ruffini, and Dazed editor Ib Kamara. The event’s location in Marrakech aligned with the Qatar-Morocco 2024 Year of Culture initiative, showcasing the region’s cultural richness and fostering solidarity amid current challenges. Co-chair Tania Fares emphasized the importance of nurturing MENA talent, particularly during times of conflict, with a tribute to Lebanon’s resilient fashion industry, which continues to thrive despite recent hardships.

Founded in 2018 by Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Sheikha Al-Mayassa bint Hamad Al Thani, and Tania Fares, the FTA has helped many alumni find commercial and critical success. Moving forward, Fares envisions expanding the program’s mentorship offerings and possibly hosting the event in other MENA countries. Sheikha Al-Mayassa also announced a new Qatari fashion craft council to further elevate regional talent.

The FTA is part of Qatar’s broader efforts to establish itself as a regional fashion hub, supporting the country’s strategy to diversify beyond natural gas. Through investments in luxury brands like Valentino and Harrods, Qatar wields significant influence in the global fashion industry, combining financial clout with cultural initiatives to bolster its soft power on the world stage.
